Texas has never been defined by just one look or way of life. Ranches, cowboy culture, large homes and open land are part of its story, but so are the varied landscapes, architectural influences and communities found across the state.
“Quintessential Texas living” has helped shape the vision for COLTON® from its earliest planning stages. For the development team, that meant looking across Texas for inspiration, bringing elements of the state’s architecture, landscapes and sense of place into the homes, outdoor spaces, gathering places and details throughout the 5,700-acre community.
It Looks Like Texas Architecture, Reinterpreted for Today
Texas architecture has taken many forms over the years. Hill Country homes, Prairie influences, Spanish architecture, and mid-century forms have all found a place across the state.
The COLTON community brings several of those influences into new construction through exterior home designs created specifically for COLTON. Its five featured styles are Texas Craft, Texas Prairie, Texas Mesa, Spanish Monterey, and Mid-Century Modern.
Texas Craft takes cues from Hill Country homes with steep rooflines, natural stone, horizontal siding, and functional front porches. Texas Prairie has lower rooflines, broad overhangs, brick, and strong horizontal lines. Texas Mesa uses rough-cut stone, wood details, dark-framed windows, and layered rooflines.
Spanish Monterey introduces smooth stucco, curved entryways, terracotta-inspired roofs, and decorative tile. Mid-Century Modern uses low rooflines, large windows, simple siding, and geometric forms.
The front porch is one simple example of how these architectural details support everyday living. Its depth and placement recall older Texas homes where front porches created a natural connection between the home and the outdoors.
COLTON reinterprets recognizable Texas architecture for today’s homes, keeping the regional details that make each style distinctly Texan.
It Means Room to Roam and Familiar Faces
Room to roam does not have to mean living on isolated acreage. Within a community, that sense of space can come from trails, green areas, and places to spend time outdoors close to home.
COLTON is set in the wooded landscape around Montgomery County and Todd Mission, beneath a canopy of native Texas trees. Phase 1 includes more than 186 acres of green space and trails, with miles of 10-foot-wide hike-and-bike trails connected to walking paths throughout the neighborhood.
Residents can use those routes throughout the day, whether for a morning walk, an evening bike ride, or simply more time outside.
Regular walks and bike rides can also lead to familiar faces, as residents cross paths with the same neighbors throughout the community.
Those everyday interactions support COLTON’s vision of a neighborhood where residents have more opportunities to get to know the people around them.
It Sounds Like Music on a Texas Evening
Music has long been part of Texas life, and COLTON has made live music part of its community events from the beginning. Its first public event, the June 2025 Grand Opening, featured live music on two stages alongside food and local vendors.
Music returned for the first Classic COLTON Christmas and the 2026 Savory Sounds of Summer series, which paired local musicians with food trucks and family activities.
Live music has since become a recurring part of gatherings in COLTON, especially during events meant to bring neighbors outdoors to spend time together.
Arroyos Park will give concerts and community performances a dedicated setting. The eight-acre park includes an amphitheater and grassy event lawn planned for concerts and other performances under the trees and stars. Residents and guests will be able to sit on the lawn or bring a blanket or chair, while The Welcome Inn overlooks the event area from its patio.
As COLTON’s event calendar grows, the amphitheater will give live music a permanent home in the neighborhood.
